There’s been a lot in the media lately about the supposed making of a Tony Pike movie based on the life story of Tony (RIP).
We took on the mantle of running Pikes in 2011 and were privileged to have the offer from Tony to buy it in 2015. The team behind this film, in my view, are not acting in the best interests of Tony, his estate or the Pikes that we all love. They have no connection with any of us.
I have been in contact with Matt Trollope (MT Ink), the co-author and publisher of Tony’s authorised autobiography, ‘Mr Pikes: The Story Behind The Ibiza Legend’. Matt has confirmed that the producers behind this proposed movie are not involved in any option agreement with him. Matt Trollope said, ‘We believe the team behind this project have been misrepresenting their film as being based on Tony’s official autobiography, when it is not. Our lawyer has written to those involved and will be vigorously protecting our rights.’
I am speaking up in the hope that those who are tempted to finance this project realise this movie would not do Tony, Pikes or its story justice.
Pikes is a place of incredible history, unique beauty, quirkiness, eccentricity, intimacy and magic; a place that Tony built with his own hands and a place that has become an icon in its own right in Ibiza. I believe Pikes is a place that commands respect and deserves to be protected.
